Registry Fix
Every Microsoft Windows operating system has a registry. Your system registry holds a wealth of information about your computer, which is why we constantly hear from users that after using their PC for a short length of time, it no longer works the way it used to. This is due in part to invalid entries that exist in your system registry, that might exist because of software you are no longer using or software that was not properly removed. By removing these invalid entries, you can significantly increase the performance of your PC.
The most common PC troubles are found at locations spread throughout your PC. We have pinpointed these locations, and our free scanner allows you to scan for invalid registry entries that might be causing your PC issues. The software will inform you of where the errors exist, and what potential errors they might cause. RegistryFix will scan for errors related to ActiveX controls, DLL issues, Windows explorer errors, Windows installer issues, Internet Explorer errors, Iexpore and System32 errors, Runtime errors, Outlook and Outlook Express Errors, EXE errors, Svchost errors and a wide variety of other system issues.

Open the Program Compatibility troubleshooter in Windows 7
Most programs written for Windows Vista also work in this version of Windows, but some older programs might run poorly or not at all. If an older program doesn't run correctly, use the Program Compatibility troubleshooter to simulate the behavior of earlier versions of Windows.
Open the Program Compatibility troubleshooter by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Programs, click Run programs made for previous versions of Windows.

End of support for Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista RTM
As Microsoft has announced in 2008, support for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) will end on July 13, 2010. Support for Windows 2000 will end on the same date. Support for Windows Vista Release to Manufacturing (RTM) will end on April 13, 2010.
NOTE: There is no Service Pack 3 for the 64-bit version of Windows XP. If you are running the 64-bit version of Windows XP with Service Pack 2, you are on the latest service pack and will continue to be eligible for support and receive updates until April 8, 2014.
To find out if you are running the 64-bit version of Windows XP, right-click My Computer, then click Properties. If you do not see "64-bit" listed, then you are running the 32-bit version and you need to install Service Pack 3 . If "64-bit" is listed under System, then you are running the 64-bit version.
Customers running an unsupported version of Windows or service pack will not be eligible for any of our support options. Updates, including security updates released with bulletins from the Microsoft Security Response Center, will be reviewed and built for the supported versions and service packs only. The most current service packs are available to organizations, and they are easily deployed via Windows Update, Windows Server Update Services/Microsoft System Center, and the Microsoft Download Center. To better understand the Microsoft Support Lifecycle Policy and your support options visit the Microsoft Support Lifecycle page.
There is no supported migration path from Windows 2000 to Windows 7 using the Windows User State Migration Tool (USMT). You will need to upgrade to Windows XP and then migrate to Windows 7 using USMT 4.0, a tool included with the Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK). For more information on Windows 2000 and Windows 2000 Server End of Support visit Windows 2000 End of Support Solution Center.
Updating your Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 2000 PCs before the end of mainstream support dates will ensure your PCs stay supported and receive security updates. The best way to be secure and supported is by migrating to Windows 7.

The DVD drive does not function after you install Windows 7
After you install Windows 7 on your computer, you cannot access the DVD drive, or you can only intermittently access the DVD drive. This problem may occur if you use one of the following DVD drives on the computer:Sony BC-5100S DVD
Sony BC-5600S DVD
TSST TS-L633B DVD+/-RW
To work around this problem, try the following methods in the order in which they are presented.Method 1: Check for a firmware update
To check for an applicable firmware update, contact the manufacturer of the DVD drive.Method 2: Disable the Adaptive Link Power Management (ALPM) feature
If you cannot find a firmware update, disable the Adaptive Link Power Management (ALPM) feature on the computer. To do this, follow these steps.Note ALPM is a feature that puts a hardware device into sleep state after 100 ms of idle time. This is a power-saving feature. After you disable ALPM, you can still configure the drive to run in any one of three power plans: Performance, Balanced, and Power Saver. However, you cannot still benefit from the additional power saving that is provided by ALPM.Click Start , click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. At the command prompt, type the following six commands in the order in which they are presented. Press ENTER after each command.powercfg.exe -setacvalueindex 8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c 0012ee47-9041-4b5d-9b77-535fba8b1442 DAB60367-53FE-4fbc-825E-521D069D2456 0

How to Increase your Download Speed
Introduction
If the speed of your Internet connection is vital to your online enjoyment, slow downloads may be frustrating. Luckily, there are several ways to increase download speed.
There is nothing worse than slow download speeds. Download speed refers to the rate data is transferred from the Internet to your computer and is measured in kilobits per second (kbps), kilobytes per second (KBps), megabits per second (Mbps) and megabytes per second (MBps).
Learn About Your Internet Connection:
Your maximum download speed will depend on your computer's Internet connection.
Types of Internet Connections:
Dial-up internet connections are connected through your phone line and are the most basic type of internet connections.
Broadband internet connections provide high speed internet access.
Test Your Download Speed:
Testing your connection will tell you if you are getting the speed promised by your Internet service provider. There are many online programs that allow you to test your internet connection for free. During an online speed test the website will send your computer a file and then measure how long it takes to download.
Mcafee: Speedometer.
The results will be given in the form of a transfer rate (e.g., kbps).
Optimize Your Computer:
Use a TCP Optimizer to optimize your computer.
Prioritize Downloads:
Remember, your Internet connection provides a finite bandwidth capacity. The more files you try downloading at a time, the slower each download will be.
Disable add-ons and extra tool bars.
Try downloading off peak hours (5 pm to 11 pm).
Try downloading when you are not using your computer for anything else.
Limit the number of programs running while you download.
